What to Do During a Dental Emergency
If you’re dealing with a dental emergency, don’t wait — contact us right away! We welcome new patients experiencing urgent dental issues and will do our best to see you as soon as possible.
Our goal is to address your pain or dental problem immediately, often on the same day, then determine the most effective way to resolve it and prevent it from coming back. In many cases, we can complete the necessary treatment during your emergency visit. Our experienced team is prepared to handle urgent dental needs with speed and professionalism.
Tooth Pain
If you’re in pain, taking overthecounter pain relievers as directed can provide temporary relief. Be careful not to exceed the recommended dosage. Never place a pill directly on an aching tooth or gum, as this can cause irritation.
Bleeding
If your mouth is bleeding, press a piece of clean gauze or tissue against the area for about 10 minutes. Avoid medications that contain aspirin because they can increase bleeding.
Loose or Damaged Restorations
If a crown, filling, or other dental restoration becomes dislodged or fractured, try to remove it to avoid accidentally swallowing or inhaling it. Be sure to bring the restoration with you when you come in.
KnockedOut Tooth
If a tooth gets completely knocked out, rinse your mouth gently with warm water. Carefully rinse the tooth too without scrubbing it, and if possible, try to place it back into the socket. If that’s not possible, keep it in a clean container with milk, or temporarily place it between your gum and cheek until you arrive at the office. Seeing your dentist as soon as possible increases the chances of saving the tooth. Applying a cold pack to the outside of your cheek near the injured area can help reduce swelling and discomfort.
