At Floret Dental, we are committed to providing accessible, high-quality dental care to the Streetsville community. We are pleased to announce that we are now accepting patients eligible for coverage under the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP).
Our goal is to help you navigate this federal program so you can achieve and maintain a healthy smile. Below, you will find answers to frequently asked questions regarding the CDCP and how it works at our clinic.
1. What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?
The CDCP is a federal government initiative designed to provide dental coverage to Canadian residents who do not have access to private dental insurance.
Important Note: The CDCP is a government dental benefit, not a “free” dental program. It is intended to help reduce financial barriers to oral health care for those without existing coverage.
2. How do I know if I am eligible?
To qualify for the CDCP, there are several criteria regarding residency, tax filing, and access to other insurance. Most importantly, you must not have access to any type of dental insurance (employer-provided, professional organizations, or private plans).
Eligibility is determined solely by the Government of Canada. We recommend visiting the official government portal to view the most current requirements:

3. How much does the CDCP cover? Will my treatment be free?
The CDCP covers a portion of dental costs, but patients may still be responsible for certain expenses. The level of coverage is based on adjusted family net income tiers.
Patient Financial Responsibilities:
- Co-payments: Depending on your income tier, you may be required to pay a percentage of the service cost.
- Fee Differences: Our clinic follows the current Provincial Dental Association Fee Guide. Because the CDCP fee guide may differ from provincial standards, there may be a balance between what the CDCP pays and our standard clinic fees.
For specific details on coverage percentages and income tiers, please refer to the official Government of Canada Coverage Page.
4. What services are covered under the CDCP?
The plan covers a wide range of preventive and restorative services. While most routine care is included, some complex services may require pre-authorization from Sun Life.
Commonly covered services include:
- Examinations and X-rays
- Cleanings, fluoride, and sealants
- Fillings
- Root canals
- Deep cleanings (scaling)
- Dentures and extractions
For a full list of all covered services and limitations, please visit the CDCP Dental Benefits Guide.
5. Can the CDCP replace my current insurance?
No. The CDCP is strictly for those who do not have access to dental insurance. If you have dental benefits through work, school, or a private plan, you are generally not eligible for the CDCP.
6. How do I book an appointment at Floret Dental using CDCP?
It’s easy! When booking your appointment, please let our team know that you are a CDCP member.
What to bring to your appointment:
- Your CDCP member card (issued by Sun Life).
- A valid piece of government identification.
We will bill Sun Life directly for the portion of your treatment covered by the plan. You will only be responsible for the remaining balance or co-payment at the time of your visit.
